The barn sits in the northern corner of the property, adjacent to Big Ridge Road. Pull into the driveway, hop out of your vehicle and take in the long south-facing view of the pasture. Looking down the tree line, you’ll see the orchard on the hill in the field’s southwest corner. Diagonally across the field, you’ll see the Spring House about 500 feet away in the opposite corner of the field.Enter the barn loft via the door to the main floor foyer. Directly ahead is the laundry room and the inside entrance to the workshop and gym. Ascend the stairs to your left and you’ll find yourself in the kitchen, looking over the living room, and then out onto the porch. To the left of the living room (on the garden-facing side) is the bathroom and primary bedroom. To the right (facing our downhill neighbor’s woods) is the office and second bedroom.

The primary bedroom has a king bed plus a daybed (like those in the primary bedrooms of the Spring House). The second bedroom has two twin beds (that can be made into another king, upon request), a ship’s ladder to a loft area (the Loft-Above-The-Loft). Climb up the ladder to the LATL and you’ll find a cozy little space with two “small single” beds (the same size as the daybed).Adjacent to the second bedroom is a small office. We milled just enough wood from a fallen beech that was dear to us for the siding and trim in this little room. There’s one bathroom in the barn loft with two sinks and a tub / shower in the separate water closet. If your group needs a little more bathroom space than that, there’s a second full bathroom down in the workshop next to the laundry room. The big porch faces southeast. From it, you have a wide view of the whole field, from the greenhouse and upper corner of the property, all the way around to the orchard. The woods on our property behind the orchard and the Spring House are roughly equal in area to what you see in the field—seven acres each.

Check out this post for a seven minute video tour of the barn loft.

A few caveats about some not-quite-finished things: The gym, workshop, and office aren’t yet furnished, and we haven’t yet built the guard rail in the LATL, so until that’s done, we’ve removed the ladder. We’ll wrap all that up soon.
