Milling Lumber from Fallen Beech Tree
Two springs ago, we lost our most beloved tree in Atlanta during a windstorm.

We used all the thick branches for firewood, but were still left with enormous sections of trunk.

So last spring, we brought in a portable mill…

And spent an entire day learning to appreciate the cost of lumber…

With a friend’s trailer, we hauled it up to the barn (which by then had a roof overhead), stacked it, and painted the edges, hoping it would dry evenly so we could use it for the upstairs interiors…

And about ten months later, we installed it. We only had enough for one complete room, but it sure is beautiful.
