Amazing experience staying here! Loved every aspect of this place and it will make great memories! My family and I spent a lot of time sledding, walking the trails, and sipping hot cocoa while playing card games and board games. Slept vert comfortably every night, and it was wonderful to wake up and see it snowing!
Our family joined Big Ridge Mountain Club roughly 3 years ago. I believe we were one of the first group of folks to join this unique club. We have absolutely loved every visit we have had. As a family, we have enjoyed numerous activities on land and on the water. We have completed several hikes in the mountains including Whiteside Trail, Silver Run falls and one beautiful hike on private property. The owner of BRMC will share the details of this hike! We enjoyed seeing massive waterfalls with slow steady streams as well as panoramic views where you can see for miles. When we aren’t on a hike, we very much enjoy wake boarding and wake surfing on Lake Glenville. Both our kids learned how to “wake surf” there. If you pay close attention, you may see a bald eagle or two while you are enjoying the lake. If you are enjoying the club in the winter your children can hit Saphire Valley and learn how to snowboard, snow ski or tube down the mountain! Lastly, the house at BRMC is fabulous. It’s well-appointed and has everything you may need in a relaxed luxury feel. There are so many things to do in the beautiful fields surrounding the house. We like to make fires and play corn hole with the occasional BB Gun competition. We have enjoyed so many “experiences” at BRMC over the years. Our family or my wife and I simply cut the cord, put down our devices and enjoy all the things to do! I can’t recommend this club highly enough. It is a very special place for our family. We have had many firsts at BMRC including seeing a black bear! We look forward to many more experiences!
Thank you for the amazing place! We got gifted the BRMC and loved it. Particular highlights were the Writer’s Hut (someone slept there), the High Falls trail (10/10 can’t miss), and the no TV policy, which really forced us to deepen our connections.
Big Ridge is so peaceful and easy – the perfect backdrop to slow down and be thankful for nature and rest. Can’t wait to come back!
Thank you, Big Ridge, for the quiet escape from a busy loud life! It was wonderful to be here, to relax, breathe, and take this mountain medicine I didn’t know I needed. Highly recommend High Falls hiking trail and The Local for dinner :) we feel like locals! I loved getting to know the hummingbirds here, feasting on the trumpet honeysuckles, the sound of rain falling, and the expansive delight of the pasture. Oh, and the BRMC Barbell Club. Big fan of this place!
Such an amazing time at New Years. It was the most relaxing time! Such a cute cabin where we could play games and hike and spend time with our friends. No better way to bring in the new year!
We had an incredible stay at the Spring House! The leaves couldn’t have been more magical. We are beyond grateful for this beautiful place. Truly a balm for the soul.
Writing about Big Ridge has to begin with the iconic field on the property. It is the most joyous sight after the car ride (less than 3 hours from Atlanta) and the cherry on top is watching our dog running large figure eights to her heart’s content. There’s something about the field that I can’t ever seem to capture in a photograph of the property, although that doesn’t stop me from walking the perimeter and trying every visit. We’ve been to Big Ridge in all the seasons, but fall is my favorite. It is so nice to cozy up on the couch with a kitchen full of food from the Cashiers Farmer’s Market and play board games while listening to music and watching the sun go down. Big Ridge feels like a vintage Burberry or Barbour coat that your cooler older cousin lent you for the weekend. You put it on, go outside and pinch yourself that you're spending the night in this postcard dream house. The field feels like an immersive impressionist painting- particularly with the wildflowers in the summer. Wendy has framed the views from the house with gorgeous colored trim and walls. We always muse how she picked the perfect paint to correspond with these tree buds in the spring but also the fall leaves and the winter tree moss? Her interiors are truly magic. The house is most importantly warm and practical. It is beyond stocked with all sorts of things you need but didn’t know you need like a one of a kind feeling block print tablecloth for big dinners on the porch, the perfect size ice cream bowls, and vases for fresh cut dahlias from the garden. Geoff has given us so many great hike recommendations over the years. There even is a little trail in the woods on the property that is easy for little kids yet feels so deep in the forest without even having to get in the car for a hike. The big swing at the top of the trail is consistently our 11 year old daughter’s favorite thing about Big Ridge. It is the little things and the Grahams know it! As I write this, I know I’m just scraping the surface of what Big Ridge has been to our family over the years. It truly is a mountain oasis, yet still has wonderful shops in case you forget something. The now familiar faces from Lake Glenville Marina to La Poste (a wine + cook shop) are always cheerfully welcoming us year after year. We feel so lucky to have found Big Ridge as a home away from home in the mountains of North Carolina.
BRMC was the perfect place for us to feel like kids again. We hiked, played with toads and snakes, shot BBs and arrows, and challenged each other to identify flora and fauna until some of our kids joined us. August on the lake should not be missed!
The Atlanta City Fellows were so blessed to stay here for our closing retreat! We saw four deer, three bears, and a dog – plus lots of adventures along the way. This place is a small slice of heaven.
I realized on this trip to Big Ridge how busy we keep ourselves in our daily lives – even in my “quiet, off” days. I have been so content (in the best way) during our stay to slow down and be with nature and be a stranger to the outside world. The occasional cars driving by in the distance became so unfamiliar. Will miss the sound of rain on the metal roof and whatever insects were chirping in the woods. A delightful way to start my 33rd year on this earth.
Big Ridge Mountain Club feels like a true second home for our family - without the upkeep. We toss a bag in the car in Atlanta and a few hours later we’re settling into the cool air of the NC mountains. We get to spend quality time together as a family without screens. Our two boys love making breakfast, telling ghost stories around the campfire, doing puzzles around the kitchen table and being free to roam around the field and woods. My favorite thing is the wood burning stove in the writer’s hut - it’s a magical way to recharge with a cup of coffee and a book. We also host multiple company retreats here each year - easy logistics, inspiring setting, and space to deeply connect and think.
